Kingdoms

Articles focus on particularly Israel and Judah. Initially, under Saul, David, and Solomon the kingdom was united and was referred to as Israel or House of David. After Solomon’s death the kingdom became divided into two: Northern Kingdom called Israel (made up of ten of the tribes), and Southern Kingdom called Judah (made up of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin, as well as many of the priestly tribe of Levi). Israel fell first to the Assyrians never to be a kingdom again. Judah fell to Babylon for 70 years, then was restored. This was the entity in existence at the time of Christ. Christ foretold that Jerusalem, the capitol of Judah, would be destroyed by the Romans. This occurred in 70AD.
