CREATION ASTRONOMY
Apologetics Symposium. Spike Psarris was an atheist, evolutionist that became a Creationist and ultimately a Christian. For a number of years, he worked as an engineer in the U.S. military space program. He went into that career as an atheist and committed evolutionist. By the time he left, he had become a creationist and a Christian. The transformation happened in that order. First he became a creationist, because of overwhelming evidence against secular origins models, and supporting the truth of the Bible. Afterwards, he became a Christian. He mentions this because in the creation-evolution debate, you often hear the claim (from atheists) that Christians are creationists merely because the Bible requires us to be. Supposedly, if we could look at science objectively (without being blinded by our faith), we would see all the evidence for the Big Bang, billions of years of cosmic evolution, and then millions of years of biological evolution on Earth, and so on. That claim is false. Spike is one of many people in the creation movement who became creationists first, because of the evidence. Then became Christians later. Dr. Jason Lisle is a Christian astrophysicist who researches issues pertaining to science and the Christian Faith. Dr. Lisle presents a rational defense of a literal Genesis, showing how science confirms the history recorded in the Bible. Dr. Lisle double-majored in physics and astronomy with a minor in mathematics at Ohio Wesleyan University. He then went on to obtain a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in astrophysics at the University of Colorado in Boulder. There, he used the SOHO spacecraft to analyze the surface of the sun, and made a number of interesting discoveries, including the detection of giant cell boundaries. Since then, Lisle has worked in full-time apologetics ministry. Brought up in a Christian family, at a young age he received Christ as Lord. Since then Lisle has always desired to serve the Lord out of love and gratitude for salvation, and to spread the Gospel message to all people. Colossians 1:16, “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:” KJV
Creation, as a part of God’s general revelation, affirms certain facts about God. Nature testifies to God’s existence and we have only looked at a handful of presentations. There are other fields of science that pose significant issues to theories outside of a “young earth” literal creation such as:
Chemistry: The chemical origin of life remains an unsolved mystery,
Taxonomy: Biologist have failed to construct Darwin’s “Tree of Life”, where Baraminology explains kinds a Biblical concept.
Genetics. Mutations cause harm and do not build complexity, and information is required for function.
Paleontology: The fossil record lacks intermediate fossils and has a global marine layer (cretaceous layer).
Biochemistry: Unguided and random processes cannot produce cellular complexity.
