Truth Matters

In our world today, we hear common terms such as: conspiracy theories, fake news, misinformation, propaganda and alternate realities. Sensationalism has taken many by storm. A versions of the “truth”, is not truth. Think back to the Garden of Eden, the Serpent told a version of the truth. God said, “…thou shalt surely die”; the Serpents version is, “Ye shall not surely die”. The difference is one word, ‘not’, that changed its entire meaning – the Serpent’s version taught immortality. American physician and author Spencer Johnson, reminds us, “Integrity is telling myself the truth. And honesty is telling the truth to other people.” So, Truth matters.

It is so important to be politically correct and to fit within the social fabric of society, that sometimes rather than being truthful we mask our true thoughts. It is sometimes easier to skirt around the truth to avoid unpleasant conversation and/or consequences than to give honesty its rightful place. Communication becomes useless and senseless if we cannot trust the substance of what we are being told. Truth, exposes misinformation while refusing to be silenced. Honesty is a commitment to truth, not matter what that truth is. It is so very important that we do not contradict God, add to His words, or refuse to follow or accept His truth as revealed in scripture by the Holy Spirit.

Refuse to side with alternate facts for they are not facts at all. Truth must be central to our DNA, and it is the only antidote to alternate realities. Be resolute and courageous in pursing truth. Stand for truth though the heavens fall.  Zechariah 8:16 states, “These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace”. Truth is reality. Truth creates trust which builds relationships which in turn fosters fellowship. Truth matters.

Father God, you are truth and your Word is truth. In your mercy, draw us closer to you and help us to walk in your way, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
