Daniel 8: The ‘Daily’

The Continually (Daily) ‘e-thmid

There have been those who just define the daily as taking away paganism and being replaced by the papal system. It is much greater than that alone, the ‘daily’ performed by the priests in the earthly sanctuary service pointed to the mediation of Jesus Christ in the heavenly sanctuary. We are told in scripture that He is our High Priest and Mediator. He fulfills these roles until judgment is complete and He returns as our Redeemer, Lord of lords and King of kings to gather His people and destroy sin.

The papal system obscures the administration of Christ (the daily) by setting up a counterfeit sanctuary, a counterfeit mediation, and a counterfeit priesthood.

There are those that talk about the taking away of the daily in relationship to the word ‘sacrifice’. It is very important to know that the word ‘sacrifice’ was actually added by the translators. It doesn’t belong to the text. So, if we just use the word ‘daily’ by itself – take away the daily – and if we do a word search through the Bible on the word ‘daily’ it is really interesting what we will find.

Read Psalm 16:8,34:1, 35:27-28, 40:11 as examples…there are so many more but we will use these texts to get the point. Where is theses text are the original word ‘daily’?

Psalm 16:8 it is ‘always’
Psalm 34:1 it is ‘continually’
Psalm 35:27-28 it is’ continually’
Psalm 40:11 it is ‘continually’

This is how the word is used, the word daily in the Hebrew was connected with the sanctuary, it described the continual offering that was made, the continual light that was burning, the continual mediation of the priest for the people, the continual incense that was burning: the continual, the regular, the tamid (e-thmid).* The e-thmid it is used throughout scripture to describe our continual praise of God, our continued reliance upon God, our continual looking to God, our continual keeping of God’s law and statutes, and we find this all through scripture. In fact, Isaiah 58, there is a famous verse about the sabbath: If thou turn thy foot from the sabbath from doing thine own pleasure on my holy day I will guide thee continually meaning daily. So, when it says this “little horn” power is trying to take away the daily it means he is trying to take away our continual reliance upon Christ, continual praising of Christ, our continual resting in Christ…that is what the Sabbath is about our continual relationship with Christ.

*e-thmid is an adverb, but here is it used as a noun; meaning it is describing all of the aspects of Jesus’ administration in the sanctuary in heaven. Let’s verify in scripture the ‘continual’ (e-thmid):

Exodus 28:29, “And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the Lord continually.”

Exodus 29:42, “This shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord: where I will meet you, to speak there unto thee.”

Exodus 25:30, “…set upon the table shewbread before me always (e-thmid).”

Exodus 30:8, “And…he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual (e-thmid) incense before the Lord throughout your generations.”

Hebrews 7:24-25, “But this man, because he continueth ever, had an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”

Leviticus 24:2-4, “Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually. Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the Lord continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations. He shall order the lamps upon the pure candlestick before the Lord continually.

The ”continual” is all about JESUS:

Who brings our names before the Father?
Who does the sacrifice represent?
What does the incense represent?
What does the shewbread represent?
Who is our High Priest?
What do the lamps represent?
Who intercedes for us?
Who forgives us?
Who saves us?

We are so self-sufficient. Peter has this relationship with Christ and Peter says,” Lord if it be let me walk on the water.” Christ tells Peter to come on out and so Peter gets out on the water and he is walking on the water. As his gaze is upon Christ, he is walking on the water going towards Christ, but as soon as he takes his gaze off of Christ he starts sinking and down he goes. When we continually focus on Christ, and follow the Lamb wherever he goes we do not sink.

There is a connection between Daniel and Revelation we are seeing the connection right here. What the papacy is trying to do is to take away what the sanctuary represents. It represents continual reliance on Jesus, continual reliance on his sacrifice, continual reliance on His mediation on our behalf.
