Jesus’ Last Week

Jesus had two of his disciples go and get a a donkey and her colt. This colt had never been ridden before.

As Jesus rode the colt into Jerusalem, people threw their coats down before Him, others cut branches and threw them down before Him as he rode the colt.

And the people that went before Jesus, and those that followed Jesus, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

When Jesus came into Jerusalem, the people there wanted to know who He was.

Those that were following Jesus, told the people who he was.

Jesus went to the temple, and turned over the tables of the money changers, and the seats of those that sold doves. Jesus said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

Jesus healed many people.

The chief priests and scribes did not like what Jesus was doing and how the people were following him.

When Jesus was done, he went to Bethany and stayed there.

Jesus came upon a fig tree that had no fruit, and he said from now on this tree shall bear no fruit; and the tree withered away. In the Bible trees can represent people. Jesus was saying that these people have no fruit and they will wither away just as this fig tree has done. The disciple were amazed and Jesus told them, “Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. 22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”

Jesus went into the temple and began to teach. The scribes and Pharisees came to Jesus and asked him by what authority does he teach these thing and who gave him this authority? Then Jesus said to the, “I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things. So, Jesus asked the, “The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him? But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet. And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

Jesus told the scribes and Pharisees two parables:

A man had two sons. He cam to the first son and asked him to go work in the vineyard and the son said NO, but then repented and went to the vineyard to work. He came to his second son and asked him to go work in the vineyard and the second son said he would go but did not go. Which one of the sons did the will of his father. The scribes and Pharisees said the first. Jesus told them that the publicans and the harlots will go into the kingdom of God before you. Because John the Baptist came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and when you saw it you did not repent that you might believe on him.

The other parables was about a certain household who planted a vineyard and put a hedge around it. Then dug a winepress in it and built a tower. Then rented it out to a husbandman and the owner left to go into a far away country. In due time the fruit was ready to harvest and the husbandman sent his servants to gather the fruits. Then he took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. Then he sent other servants and they gathered the fruit and the husbandman did the same thing to those servants as he did to those before them. The husbandman sent his own son to gather the fruit thinking that his sone would be reverenced. But when they saw saw the son they said among themselves, this is the heir, come and let us kill him and we will take his inheritance. And they did so. Now, when the lord returned what will he do to those husbandmen? The scribes and Pharisees said that He will destroy those wicked man and will rent out his vineyard unto other husbandmen which shall render him the fruits in their season.  Jesus said to the, Did you never read in the scriptures, the stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? Therefore the kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. And whoever falls on this stone shall be broken: but on whom it shall fall it will grind them into powder.

When the chief priests and Pharisees had heard these parables, the perceived that he spoke of them. And they conspired to lay their hands on him, they feared the multitude because they took him for a prophet. As we know, they through Judas, received Him and through their hate and deceit conspired to have the sweet lovely Jesus put to death. However, we know that Jesus laid down his own life for you and for me. He took our sins, upon his innocence life, clear to the grave; and that it where he left them which will be consumed by fire when that event takes place. Jesus, the victor, took up his own life from the grave, and offers us undeniable gift of salvation. Don’t delay your decision brothers and sister – it will be the most important decision you will ever make.
