Michael, the Archangel vs. Lucifer, son of the morning

So many people ask who is Michael and how does he fit into the contest with Lucifer?  Most people believe that Michael is the captain, leader of the heavenly host…a supreme angel.  The Plain Word challenges this belief in light of scripture.  This is controversial and there are some who say it is blasphemous, however touchy, we must let the Bible define this for us.

Let’s start on the opposite end who is Lucifer, son of the morning.

Isaiah 14:12-15t says, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how

art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in

thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will

sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend

above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought

down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”

As we look at this verse, it’s actually quite interesting.  It tells us about Lucifer who was part of the heavenly realm.  At some point Lucifer fell, but prior to his fall he was perfect.  Lucifer was perfect until iniquity was found in him.  In other words, he was created perfect with the freedom of choice and when he enabled that freedom of choice to choose against righteousness and truth that’s when he fell.  So, God didn’t create him to fall, Lucifer exercised a choice to fall.  Instead of glorifying God, Lucifer glorified himself as we see in the “I” statements:

  • I will ascend into heaven,
  • I will exalt my throne above the stars of God,
  • I will sit upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north,
  • I will ascend above the heights of the clouds
  • I will be like the Most High

Here is an angel that exalted himself, wanted to be in the congregation of the north, and wanted to be part of the throne of God.  Lucifer desired and actively sought to be elevated to the position of God.  And ‘yes’, this attitude and behavior cost him his place in heaven.  The war in heaven was over the mind…allegiance to God or Lucifer.  All who sympathized with him, one third of the angelic host, was eventually cast out of heaven.  When Lucifer was thrown from heaven, he became Satan, “the adversary”.

Lucifer, Originator of Sin

Lucifer is the originator of sin (John 8:44). He was perfect until he developed iniquity—a trait that God never put there.

The Bible tells us that Lucifer was created perfect in all his ways. God did not create sin, or an imperfect being. There was no reason for Lucifer to fall from his exalted position. However, God gives His creatures freedom of choice and Lucifer chose to rebel against God’s government and authority.

God could have made angels and people so that they could not sin, but He made us free agents, not robots. Without this freedom, His creatures would not be able to truly love God, for then they would only be programmed to love Him. God wants love that comes from a willing heart. He is not a God of force. He gave freedom to choose whether to obey or disobey, to love or to hate. Lucifer chose to hate.

Lucifer held an exalted position in heaven. He was the “anointed cherub that covereth” the throne of God. He was “full of wisdom and perfect in beauty” (Ezekiel 28:12-14). But Lucifer was proud of his beauty. Ezekiel 28:17 says this of Lucifer: “Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou has corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness.” His beauty went to his head and the seed of sin germinated.

If God had chosen to destroy Lucifer at that point, some would have served God from fear rather than from love. Lucifer’s influence and the spirit of rebellion would not have been fully eradicated. Instead, for the good of the entire universe through ceaseless ages, God allowed Lucifer to fully develop his charges against the divine government so that they might be seen in their true light. Sin must run its course for its enormity to be fully abhorred; but it will eventually be eradicated, along with its instigator.

“Therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes…and never shalt thou be any more” (Ezekiel 28:18-19).

When God created this world and all its creatures, “God saw every thing that he had made, and behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). God is not the author of sin, but He was willing to bear its consequences. He became a man so that He could die, taking the punishment for all of our sin (Romans 6:23).

The great battle raging in the universe is between the Creator of all things and Satan – the angel who rebelled against God.  Satan rebelled because he deemed himself equal with Christ, refusing to be subjected to His authority and government.

In his rebellion, Lucifer swept away one-third of the angelic host (Revelation 12:4). Jesus described Satan’s expulsion from heaven like ‘lightening falling from heaven’ (Luke 10:18).  Satan and all of the other angels left their first estate (heaven) and have turned themselves unto darkness and will be judged on that great day (Jude 1:6).

Man, Image Bearer of God

When God created Adam and Eve and put them in the Garden the bible tells us He gave them dominion over the earth.  They were in control of this earth under the authority of God (Genesis 1:26, Ps. 8:6-8).  None of the angels had dominion, they were subordinate to God and God had the dominion.

God created them male and female.  God shared with them the capacity to bring forth life.  In a sense God is sharing his creative capacity with his new creation (Genesis 1:11-12, 22, 27-28).  So, here is a new order of beings who share in the creative capacity and having dominion.  All of the heavenly host was in awe of God’s creative power and of creation itself.  Here they could see a new race that bore the image of the Creator.  But, there was one in the universe that was not as enthusiastic and all that he saw in these new beings is the One he grew to hate.  God created an order of beings that was to understand the mind of God as a creator and caretaker, because creating means taking responsibility…bringing forth children means taking forth responsibility such as protecting, nurturing, teaching, etc.  Now, God did not create man to fall but he created him with the capacity of choice.  Which means, mankind had the capacity to fall…just as Lucifer fell.  Here was an order of beings that was to embody something which would eventually prove that God was all wise in his creation.

Heaven has invested a lot in us because God wants us to demonstrate to the universe his whole purpose in saving the human race and protecting the unfallen worlds from making the same mistake this world has made.

Our Condition

Our world, in its fallen state, has developed the same mindset as the great deceiver.  This ideology that man can inherently rise to the level of deity is part of the thinking of a great portion of humanity.  It was a problem in Eden, as you may recall, Eve was told that her eyes would be opened and would be as gods knowing good and evil.  The tree was pleasing to the eyes and was desired for it would make her wise. Unfortunately, this ideology has crept in many churches in the form of the whole new age movement and theosophy, for example.   Of course, outside of the church it is rampant in music and cinema, etc.

We must remember that Lucifer was a beautiful created being, powerful (think about his attach on Job), and exceedingly cunning (think about Eve).  We must stay connected to God, for our adversary the devil is a ‘roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour’ (1 Peter 5:8).

Sin on Earth

After Satan was driven from heaven, he turned his attention to the newly created Earth. He confronted Eve and convinced her that knowledge of good and evil would enable her to be like God. He told her that sin does not have the consequence of death. Eve chose to disobey God, and Earth has since been a planet in rebellion against the government of God.

John 8:44 says that Lucifer “was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.” His pride led to envy and his envy led to hatred. His hatred for Christ is so all consuming, that he murdered Christ. His hatred for those whom Christ has redeemed fuels the fires of pain and grief of this world.

Every day we see and experience evil and pain caused by those who choose Satan over God.  We didn’t Choose to be born, but still have to live with pain and sorrow. God would like us to learn from those experiences that choosing Satan as a master is a deadly choice. God hopes that by seeing the results of Satan’s government, we will make Christ, rather than Satan, our King.

Those who love and serve Christ are the enemies of Satan. Christ himself tells us that a life lived for Him will be neither easy nor free of pain. But only through Him can we find true peace: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In this world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
How does Michael and Satan fit into the big biblical paradigm?

Is Michael and Jesus one and the same?  As stated earlier, there are many organizations and people out there that would beg to differ.  The idea is, if you compare Jesus to Michael you’re blaspheming because is belittling Jesus in some way making him less than what he is.  We have to study deep to find the answer.

Satan was jealous of Christ.  Satan wanted to sit on the throne of God, so we can only imagine as he witnessed Christ being baptized, and the Father’s response of His glory over shadowing his Son.  Satan heard the voice of Jehovah testifying to the divinity of Jesus.  So, it is very plain that the divinity of Jesus is not negotiable.  Ever since Adam’s sin, the human race had been cut off from direct communication with God.  The intercourse between heaven and earth had been through Christ.

Prior to the coming of Christ, according to the statement in the paragraph above, the communication between heaven and earth was through Christ.  He made it possible.  The sin or transgression has separated us from God. Christ was the mediator from the beginning before the foundations of the world were laid.  From the beginning, He was the Lamb slain; first as a promise and later as a fulfillment of that promise.

The communication was between man and God via Christ.  He did use angels occasionally, but it always went through Christ to the Godhead.  The intercourse between heaven and earth had been through Christ.  Now that Jesus had come in the likeness of sinful flesh, in other words he took my humanity, the Father himself spoke and he spoke from heaven…”this is my beloved Son”.  He had before communicated with humanity through Christ, now he communicated with humanity in Christ.  Satan had hoped that God’s abhorrence of evil would bring an eternal separation between heaven and earth, but now it was manifest that the connection between God and man had been restored.

All the communication between God and man had been through Christ.  Only in Christ is it possible to have access to heaven. The Father communicated with humanity in Christ which proves again that Jesus was God.  All humanity was in Christ because he spoke humanity into existence, He created them.

We must understand that there’s no one who knows scripture better than the devil himself along with his agents.

Psalm 85, in the King James Version it has the title of “Revive us Again”, to the chief musician a psalm of the sons of Korah.

Lord, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.
2 Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sins. Selah.  Who does this refer to?  JESUS.
3 Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thing anger.
4 Turn us, O  God of our salvation, and cause thine anger towards us to cease.
5 Wilt thou be angry with us forever? Wilt thou draw out thy anger to all generations?
6 Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?
7 Show us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation. Who is this talking about?  JESUS.  This is a Psalm about a Redeemer.
8 I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.
So, here is the story of repentance and staying on the narrow road.
9 Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him: that glory may dwell in our land.
10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
This must be the most profound verse in the bible, because where did mercy and truth meet together?  Where did righteousness and peace kiss each
other?  AT THE CROSS…at the cross when Jesus hung  there…at the cross mercy and justice kissed each other.  It was forever displayed to the world
that God is merciful; but that God is a God of justice.  And, when He said the wages of sin is death, then justice demanded the execution of that
sentence and in Christ it was.  God is merciful – through the very act mercy could be extended to humanity.  This is such a beautiful psalm.
11 Truth shall spring out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Who is our righteousness?  JESUS CHRIST is our righteousness.
12 Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.
13 Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.
This is one of the most beautiful psalms regarding the mission of Jesus Christ.

What does the bible dictionary have to say about Michael?  Easton’s Bible Dictionary:
Michael [N] [S] who is like God?
Actually the definition is: who is what God is. That’s pretty direct.

The title given to one of the chief angels (Daniel 10:13, 10:21, 12:1).   Actually, this is a bit of a misnomer as we will see.  He had special charge of Israel as a nation.  He disputed with Satan (Jude 1:9) about the body of Moses.  He is also represented as warning against “that old serpent called the devil and Satan, which deceives the whole world” (Revelation 12:7-9).  So, Michael is the great adversary of Satan.  There’s a great conflict between Michael and Satan.  This is the great controversy.

This word ‘archangel’ it is used very broadly in the world.  If you study Catholicism and look at their writings one will see they have a number of archangels listed; such as Raphael and Gabriel, etc.  If one looks at some of the other organizations in the world there are many archangels, however; if you read the King James Version the word ‘archangel’ only appears twice.  Here are the two verses:

1 Thessalonians 4:16, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the
dead in Christ shall rise first:” [emphasis added].

Jude 1:9, Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing
accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee” [emphasis added].

So, two verses where we have this word ‘archangel’, and once (Jude 1:9) it is associated with Michael.  The bible actually never associates the word ‘archangel’ with any other angel – not even Gabriel.

We will expand on 1 Thessalonians 4:16; but first let’s look at Thayer’s definition of the word ‘archangel’:
(G743) archaggelos.  Definition: 1) archangel, or chief of the angels.  Part of Speech: noun masculine.

It’s interesting that angels are often depicted as feminine, particularly in Roman Catholic portrayals on murals, etc. and as babies.  However, it’s masculine and it literally means ‘chief of the angels’.

Now let’s go back to 1 Thessalonians 4:16 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:” [emphasis added].

When they use the word “Lord” in the New Testament, it’s the equivalent of the word in the Old Testament.  In the New Testament it’s kyrios in the Old Testament it’s jave or java.  So, He will come with the ‘voice of the archangel’.

Now, let’s just go to a parallel text in John 5:26, “For as the Father has life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.  28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice” [emphasis added].

Who’s voice shall they hear?  THE VOICE OF THE SON OF MAN.  Who’s voice is that? IT’S THE VOICE OF THE ARCHANGEL.

So, in these two texts you have the reality that the voice of the archangel is the voice of the Son of man.  Now, this title ‘Son of man’ comes from Daniel 7.  It is the one who came to the Ancient of Days, and He is the One that took His seat in the judgment.  All judgment was given to Jesus, so obviously we have a link between the archangel’s voice and the voice of the Son of God…one and the same.

What’s interesting is, when looking at the sentence construction – it comes through that the dead in Christ shall rise first. So, if you follow it from “with the voice of the archangel” those that are “dead in Christ will rise first” when they hear the voice; this links the archangel with Christ.

Remember in the back of your mind, that the word Michael means ‘the one who is what God is’.  Now, let’s go back in history and we will look at Exodus 3:2.  Firstly, in the Old Testament we often read the ‘angel of the Lord’.  That is a very specific title and the word ‘angel’ means ‘messenger’, you can look it up.

Exodus 3:2, “The angel of the Lord appeared unto him [this is now Moses] in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed” [comment added].

So, here was a miracle and associated with the miracle was the ‘angel of the Lord’.  Verse 5 says, And he said, Draw not nigh hither [this is now the angel of the Lord speaking]: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground [comment added].  Verse 6, Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.  And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.”  SO, it is very clear that the ‘angel of the Lord’ is God.  Also, the fact that He declared ‘holy’ the place where the ‘angel of the lord’ was standing.

Let’s go even farther and have a look at this ANGEL and GOD in the bible; because it says, “I am the Lord thy God”.  The first word for ‘angel’ is mal’ak – mal-awk’: From an unused root meaning to dispatch as a deputy; a messenger; specifically of God, that is, an angel (also a prophet, priest, or teacher): – ambassador, angel, king, messenger.  NOW, Jesus was the means by which the Godhead communicated with humanity.

SO, here the ‘angel of the Lord” says that He is God.  Strong’s H430 – elohiym, el-o-heem’.  Plural of H433; the word used there is Elohim.  This is interesting for it says -gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, specifically with the article) of the supreme God;  “Let us make man in our image” occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative: – to angels,…  Therefore, angels can also be called ‘messengers’, they are messengers – X exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.  [emphasis and comments added]

SO, there are many applications but the fact that He received worship is beyond doubt the pinnacle of the argument because only God may receive worship.

Isaiah 63:7-9,” I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the Lord [that isYahweh], and the praises of the Lord, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.  8 For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour [the Lord we are told here is the Savior].  9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them [Sustainer] and carried them all the days of old.”

We now have another link, we have Jehovah and the name java: coupled to Savior, coupled to angel of his presence, coupled to a Savior, coupled to a redeemer, coupled to a sustainer; that carried them all the days of old.  Who’s it referring to?  Jesus.  Is Jesus here called ‘angel of his presence’? Yes.  We had the burning bush and now we have another example that also linked him to ‘Yahweh’ a title which is applied to Jesus in the New Testament as Kyrios.

In the Old Testament, both the Father and the Son are referred to as Jehovah. Genesis 48:16, this was Jacob’s blessing that he pronounced on the sons of Joseph and again it says: “The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers – Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.”

Who is the one that was to bless them? The “Angel which redeemed me”.  Here again there is a reference to the word ‘angel’ and redemption.  The ONLY one who can redeem us, because “…there is no other name under  heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” other than the name Christ Jesus (Acts 4:12).  Again, we have a link between the ‘angel of his presence’, the ‘angel that redeemed’, and in the Old Testament the ‘angel of the Lord’ that appeared in the burning bush.

NOW, Revelation 12:7, “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon [devil] and the dragon fought and his angels,  8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found in any more in heaven” [comment added].  SO, the great conflict was between Michael and his angels and the devil, that old serpent, and his angels was cast out. There was war over the mind and allegiance to God.  The Leader and the Captain of the host…heavenly host that is; was Michael.  Here are the two sides that have been clearly described for us in scripture.

Let’s just be very careful here, in the Old Testament in Joshua 5:13 “And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho [this is when the children of Israel was preparing to Canaan, after their 40 years of sojourn, Jericho was their first point of conflict], that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?  14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?  15 And the captain of the LORD’S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.”

Where did you read that before?  Moses and Joshua worshipped.  Who was worshiped? God, because you may not worship anyone else.  Also, He was the Captain of the LORD’S host.

Back to Revelation.  Who in Revelation was the ‘Captain’ of the heavenly host? Michael, the Archangel.  Question. Are we getting a picture here?  Definitely.  This is a very important parallel because He is the Conqueror, He is the mighty angel with his sword drawn, and it’s fascinating that Joshua actually went up to him to confront him.  When Joshua realized who it was, he immediately fell down and worshipped, and he even had to take off his shoes.  Falling down and worshipping this Angel is in contrast with John who fell down to worship an angel in Revelation and was told to stand for the angel said he was a ‘fellow servant’ (Revelation 22:9).  John was corrected.  Worship is for God alone.

The fact that the Captain of the LORD’S host, the fact that the angel of his presence, the fact that the angel that redeemed; ALL received worship and gave blessings is proof that we are dealing with God.  He is the one that’s communicating with humanity, SO IT MUST BE JESUS.  The ‘one who is what God is’ is Michael, which is his angelic name; and is a portrayal of what He does.  He has other names as well, for example, in Isaiah there are many titles that he has such as: Emmanuel which means: God with us, so his names are descriptions of what He is doing.

It is interesting that when we get to heaven we will get a new name, so we will get our angelic name…so to speak.  It will portray the character that you are supposed to develop.  Let’s look at a few other examples in the Old Testament.  If you look at the parents of Samson, for example, the ‘angel of the LORD’ appeared first to the Samson’s mother and then later his father. Judges 13:21-22 it says, “But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife.  Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD.  22 And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.”

When the bible speaks about the ‘angel of the LORD’, he’s the one that went ahead of them in the fiery pillar and in the pillar of cloud…it was Jesus all along.

The vision of Zechariah 3:1, “And he shewed me Joshua the high priest sanding before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.  2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

Where did we read the words “the LORD rebuke thee Satan”? In Jude, when Jesus was contending with Satan over the body of Moses.  The words that we read here are the exact words that we find in the book of Jude.  They are spoken by Jesus, because it says Michael, and here it is Michael.  Now, who is the ‘God of the resurrection’?  Jesus.  He’s the one who will call the dead to life on the last day…so here’s another link.  The exact same words ‘Michael the angel of the Lord: but the angel of the lord is not normal angel because he receives worship.  ‘We have seen God’, the links are undisputable.

Let’s look at the visions of Daniel 10:13, for we’re getting to the crux of the matter.  “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.”

This is a fascinating verse. The ‘chief princes’ and we look it up in Strong’s we get this:
H7223, rishon  rishon, ree-shone’, ree-shone’.  From H7221; first, in place, time or rank (as adjective or
noun): – ancestor, (that were) before (-time), beginning, eldest, first, fore [-father] (-most), former (thing), of
old time, past.  What’s it referring to? Jesus because these are attributes of God. When it says ‘one of the
     chief princes’

Then it must be referring to the Godhead (one of…), because they are often called princes.  The prince of the kingdom of Persia was not the earthly prince because an angel like Gabriel would wipe him out with one swipe…poof.  Remember the king of Babylon, what happened when he was confronted with the finger/hand of God…his knees knocked together.  Exactly the same thing happened here, the prince of the kingdom of Persia is the ‘super prince’ standing behind the earthly one; and that’s Lucifer.  It’s interesting that Lucifer held up Gabriel, then Gabriel summoned the aid of Michael.  As we have learned, Michael is one of the ‘chief princes’ of the Godhead.  Michael came and took care of the problem.  There’s only one who can withstand the power of the devil.

This is an amazing verse to me because it just shows the character of God.  When God cast Lucifer out of heaven, God removed him from his position but he never took any of his power.  Lucifer, now called Satan or devil, is still mightier than Gabriel.  Gabriel could not get through and it took Michael to do this.  This showcases His loving character.  He wanted to show the whole universe where rebellion leads to AND Satan could not accuse God of unfairly diminishing him.  God is all wise, the best witness to the universe is to allow Satan’s true character to manifest to its full capacity and to show how destructive sin is.  We can see where the world has gone as a consequence.

We must be very careful of presumptuous sin because that’s the most dangerous sin.  This is what led Adam and Eve to fall.  How many preachers in the world treat Satan like a beaten dog and yet Gabriel couldn’t get past him.  If it weren’t for Michael, we would have no power…nothing.  If it wasn’t for the ‘one who is what God is’ we would have no power.  The only way to conquer the devil and his angels is through the power of Christ. SO, Daniel 10:21, “But I will show thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.”  Who is our prince? JESUS CHRIST.  Is there another? NO, no other name.

Daniel 12:1, “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same  time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.”

This is an amazing verse.  This verse refers to ‘Michael shall stand up’, what does that mean?  We need to think if Michael stands up, then he must have been sitting at that moment on the judgment throne.  The signal here is this, when he stands up from the judgment throne, then probation is closed.  When probation is closed, then there will be a time of trouble such as never was.  And we are this close to that time.  When the advent judgment comes to an end that’s when Michael will stand up from the throne of judgment.  The phase of executive judgment will commence, the plagues will fall, and at that time the promise is that we will be delivered.  The fact that he stands up tells us who he is.  He is Jesus because all judgment has been given unto him.  He will be able to say, ‘It is finished’.  The great decree will go out, just as it did at the cross.  The ‘It is finished’ of the cross was the price for redemption and it was paid, however; sin still continued even to this very day.  The close of probation it will be proclaimed, let him who is just – remain just, and let him who is unjust – let him remain unjust.  We are not guaranteed a tomorrow.  The time is now to decide which side you will stand on…Michael’s who is the chief prince-Captain of our salvation-our Redeemer-the Son of God – who is Jesus Christ our King; or Lucifer’s side. Jesus Christ is the only one that can save us for there is no other name under heaven and earth whereby we may be saved.
